History is a very old international literary art, and it was found in most of the peoples and nations before Islam, especially in the civilizations of the Romans and the Persians, and the Holy Quran contained many stories of previous nations, and even the Arabs are directed in a narrative form that suits their inclinations and nature, based on their love of listening to historical stories and news.  The various stories of the Nights and Nights gatherings, and the pre-Islamic Arab stories, are characterized by their realism, free from imagination and exaggeration in the narration, with the exception of the mythical stories.

Defining the story

The story in language is a written story derived from reality or fantasy or both, and is based on certain foundations of literary art, and is conjugated through stories, and the story in its contemporary sense is a record of what it occurs in a certain period of time, whether it is many events or a single event, and these events left an impression on the writer himself.  Which prompted him to write it, and these events may have occurred over a long period, thus forming the so-called novel, or an intermediate period of time, to form the so-called short story, or the short period that formed the so-called novel. story. 

 The story contains facts conveyed by the writer from the reality of life and artistically and literarily coordinated in a way that distinguishes him from other writers. Paint a futuristic picture of real things that people don't have. As for the creativity of the writer, it lies in presenting and coordinating events to present a story whose events are sequenced in a way that attracts the reader, and the events and characters are consistent with the objective that the writer expects.  To compose that novel or story, and the story describes a certain stage of life that begins at a specific point and ends at another point and in detail, whether this stage relates to one person or several people. 

 Despite the differences between writers and critics about the definition of the short story, they unanimously agreed that it is the art of literary prose that deals with a set of facts and events that a group of people performs in a specific environment and part of a period and ends with a goal, and these facts were formulated in a certain literary style, critics unanimously agreed.  There are specific elements of a story that must be available for its success, which are the events, the characters, the time, the place, and the narrative. On the narration of facts by the narrator and the use of his imagination in writing.

Story types

There are two stories. Some are fictional and some are real. The fictional story in which the characters are a figment of the writer's imagination, and have no real existence, and the story may have a romantic character depicting the heroism of knights and depicting high relationships and noble morals, and some of the stories are social stories in which the writer talks about community issues, and there are science fiction stories that have nothing to do with In fact, it is a purely fictional world, and some stories deal with real events that are know in time and space and are represented by real people, such as biographies of kings and rulers, historical stories and stories of ancient heritage.

The purpose of the story

The story aims to achieve interest in raising the problems facing the community and propose solutions to them. The events of the story reveal sensitive issues that concern the reader but cannot explain them. The story also achieves fun through the way it is structured and sequenced, and creativity in narrating its events and drawing its characters. In addition to attracting the reader's attention. As for Arab history in particular, it has developed remarkably recently due to the link between Arab culture and foreign culture, in addition to the rapid development in media and media, where Arab history has become a media tool contemporary, in addition to the increase in the translation of many  Arab by the West and the growing number of Arab writers from various Arab countries.

Story elements

The story has many elements, which are as follows:

•       Idea: It is the objective that the writer wants to convey to the reader, and it can be said that it is a lesson from the story that the reader will benefit from.

• Plot: It is a set of events that revolve around the essence of the subject and are sequential and ordered according to their causes. The plot has an element that draws attention and draws the reader into what he is reading.

• Events: are the organized facts that are mentioned in the story.

• Narration: Expresses the transfer of the story from reality to language.

• Time and place.

•       Characters: Their growth and development should be taken into account when writing the story.

•       Construction: It is the development that occurs in the characters and events of the story, and the change in their situations.

Story writing tips

To write a story, there are specific steps to follow:

•    Read and learn many short stories to learn how to write a short story, taking important notes for reference when needed.

•    Choose the theme of the story, taking into account the writer's ability to write on it, and its events should be the product of the writer's imagination.

• Determine a goal for the story in order to build the sequence of events based on it, and the writer should write an introduction to the story, and then the dialogue and event sequence. 

•    Familiarity with the Arabic language and its linguistic and literary rules.

• Stay away from bad behaviors in society as much as possible, and it should be noted that they are wrong in case the writer had to mention some of them in the story.
