Signs of hyperactivity in children

Signs of hyperactivity in children

The symptoms associated with ADHD appear before the age of twelve and can appear at a very young age. Up to age three, and these symptoms range in severity between mild, moderate, and severe, and differ between males and females, as females tend to be more dispersed, while males tend to be more active, and indeed the symptoms of this disorder are similar.   to symptoms of general health and behavioral conditions, correct diagnosis depends on seeing a doctor who examines the symptoms and assesses their impact on the child's life and relationships at school and home.   ADHD can be divided into three subtypes, which are as follows:

Impulsive or hyperactive: (ADHD, impulsive/hyperactive type) is the least frequent, with most symptoms being characterized by hyperactivity with impulsivity without the presence of ADHD.

Distraction: (ADHD, inattentive and distractible type) is when a child has symptoms of attention deficit without symptoms of hyperactivity.

Complex disorder: ADHD, the complex type) which is the most common, since it represents a mixture of the two types together, and the child presents symptoms of hyperactivity, as well as symptoms of attention deficit and impulsivity.

     attention deficit

Some of the behaviors that indicate attention deficit disorder in a child, if they occur frequently, can be mentioned below:

  • Lack of attention to detail and neglect in school and work tasks.
  • Having trouble concentrating while doing some activities, such as: reading, long conversations, and listening to lectures.
  • Inability to listen to others.
  •      Inability to follow instructions and complete household chores and work duties, as the child begins to perform tasks and quickly loses concentration.
  •      Difficulty organizing tasks, so the child is chaotic and disorganized, does not manage time well, and does not stick to appointments.
  • Avoidance and unwillingness to perform mentally demanding tasks, such as preparing reports.
  •      Loss of important things for daily life, such as: school papers, books, keys and glasses.
  •      Ease of dispersal.

     hyperactivity

Hyperactivity is the most obvious sign of hyperactivity disorder and, in general, children are very mobile, but hyperactive children are always on the go, and when they have to sit and not move, they continue to shake their feet and tap their fingers.   include:

  •  The child finds it difficult to sit in the seat without moving.
  • Much talk.
  • Difficulty performing quiet activities.
  • Often loses or forgets things.
  • Difficulty completing a certain task, since he can go from one task to another without completing any of them.
  • Excessive movement, where the child may run and climb for no apparent purpose or reason, and in situations that are inappropriate for these behaviors.

     impulsive behavior

Impulsive children with ADHD can cause problems with self-control, and because these children are less aware of their behavior, they will appear to others to be rude or strange.   Signs of a child suffering from impulsive behavior include the following:

  • Performing behaviors without previously thinking about them.
  •      Avoid resorting to studied solutions to a problem, or resorting to random answers, or resorting to assumptions and speculation, and not waiting to hear the full question.
  • Speaking inappropriate words at an inappropriate time and unequivocally.
  •      Inability to control emotions, leading to angry outbursts.
  •      Interrupting other people's conversations, asking unreasonable and personal questions, and having difficulty following directions.

Positive impact on the child's personality

In fact, hyperactivity disorder in children has nothing to do with their level of intelligence and talent. It is suggested that many positive effects often appear in children with ADHD, including the following:

Flexibility: The personality of a child with a movement disorder is flexible, as they are considered to have a personality that is open to many options and alternatives, as they think about many options at the same time.

Creativity: A child with movement disorder is characterized by his innovative and creative personality, since he is wonderfully creative and, despite his rapid mental dispersion, he can notice things that are absent in the minds of others, since ideas flow within him. he.  This helps you solve different problems at the same time.

Energy and desire to succeed: If a child performs an interactive or practical task with interest in it, it is difficult for the child to be distracted from it and seek success in it.

Spontaneity and Enthusiasm: A child with hyperactivity disorder has a cheerful and energetic personality, and is rarely bored, due to his interest in many different things.

     Reasons to see a doctor

Parents are advised, if they suspect their child has hyperactivity disorder, to see a general practitioner or family doctor, who in turn performs various medical tests to examine the underlying causes of the child's disorders.  He or she may also recommend seeing a pediatric neurologist, psychiatrist, or psychiatrist. Or a pediatrician who specializes in behavioral development, if recommended by a GP.
