Let your brain work
I've been really corny in any of the puzzle games like Rush Hour. A logic puzzle type game that gets progressively more difficult and allows all (or most) children to work together and make them think differently.
But we've been missing out on wrecks forever, and I don't have any of them anymore.
The laser maze is such a puzzle, but I think it's easier to keep track of because it's more "game-like" in size. The basic idea is that different pieces have mirrors and corners, and one-piece emits laser light. The card shows where the different pieces should be placed (and in what direction the pieces should be, and sometimes the direction the pieces are facing) and tells them. Set it like this. This card also shows the number and type of other pieces that need to be placed somewhere on the board. Next, you need to position the cut so that it lights up the appropriate target when the laser is pushed down.
At least on a simple level, it's much easier than you can hear the explanation. When you get to a more difficult level, you definitely need to think. Especially for individuals with spatial challenges like me. Once you've decided on the solution, you can flip the card over to see if it's correct. So far, no one has found a different solution than what is on the card.
As the difficulty level increases, different types of blocks will be presented. The base of the piece is color-coded so you can always tell which one is easy.
The only real complaint I have about this is with storage. The box has a plastic insert for safe storage of all parts, and all the taller parts fit into any of the smaller compartments. One chamber is a little deeper than the other and you're supposed to put the laser piece there. However, the laser cut would fit in any other cabin, but it does stand out a bit.
For example, at the age of eleven, this is less pronounced. (The game is for people over 8 years old)
If you are 11, put back the pieces the old-fashioned way, put the lid on the box, put the box back on the toy rack, and the next person is: You can see that the laser component needs a new battery. This is because it is stored with the laser activation button pressed.
Of course, in theory.
I really hope that a) all the micro-wells for the plastic are a little deeper, so it doesn't matter where the piece is placed, or b) where the laser piece is placed is more visible. I am outside. The plastic is clearly colored depending on the type of piece.
The good thing is that the battery on this laser component is really easy to replace, and I've found it to be a fairly common watch battery. At least that's what we already had around the house, and there aren't many types of watch batteries.
