The short answer to whether or not you should go lower than usual: Yes, you probably should; That is if you plan to wear only this shirt without the seams. However, if you plan to wear it with a hoodie or something similar underneath or have a bigger belly, you probably shouldn't. If you are interested in more details, please keep reading. . .
I wanted a thicker shirt jacket that I could wear over a light to a medium hoodie for the colder months to come. I usually take an XL or an L depending on the brand, and whether I plan on layering or not. I have an athletic build (larger shoulders, smaller chest, and waist), and usually, when I intend to wear a hoodie I need a size XL; But since many said it was a big deal, I chose L. I'm glad I did. . .
The plus-size fits over my midweight hoodie, enough room for movement as I didn't think it was too tight and restrictive. It also fits well without the jacket, not too baggy and loose. If I had to go for an XL like I usually do, the fit would be a bit looser for my taste, especially when wearing the jacket without layers. Personally, I prefer a slightly snug fit as it retains body heat better when working in subzero temperatures; But my preference for a slightly relaxed fit might not be flattering for you. For reference, my height is 5-11 inches, 6 feet, 200 pounds, shoulders 53.5 inches, chest 47 inches, and waist 33 inches (measured at shoulder, chest, and waist) size).
If you are someone who likes a looser fit and/or has a wider midsection, I recommend that you take at least your usual size. This shirt jacket is more contoured in the body than a lot of other shirt jackets, so if you have a bigger belly and are thinner, this shirt will probably be too tight for you. This is what I know :
After I bought mine and wore it a bit, I bought another one for my stepdad. On the other hand, he has smaller shoulders. . . And a fairly broad environment. He usually takes an L against his jacket, but since this shirt jacket is a bit large, I chose an M. It was fine for him at the shoulders, but the jacket was not a button above her big belly. I put it back in place and had a big piece for it, which then fitted into the larger middle part, but barely.
This shirt has side pockets and an inside pocket next to the chest for a smartphone, wallet, or something else. One thing I have to say about the side pockets is that they are at a disadvantage. The manufacturer placed the side pockets directly at the seams where the front and back of the shirt jacket are sewn together, so the pockets are a bit further from the typical side pockets - in my experience anyway. If you want to use them to warm your hands, it is better to have flexible shoulders.
Also on the pockets. . Not the sides, but the upper inner chest pocket: Some people have commented that the Velcro is too strong, and so there are concerns about the inner lining tearing when the pocket is opened. Yes, it's sturdy, like most new Velcro, but. . If you grab each part of the velcro with your hands and close and open it a few hundred times (it might seem like a lot of work, but I did it in just 2 minutes) the velcro would come to off. And to a large extent.
What disappoints me the most are the snaps: they are very weak. The snaps are made of metal and look good and sturdy, but many don't stick together very well. They would open at the slightest effort, such as bending over for example. Fortunately, however, not all are exceptionally cowardly, just a few. The shirt jacket is therefore mostly partly shortened.
Overall, this is very pleasant to the touch and a durable pullover that is super warm when paired with a hoodie. It does a good job of keeping the wind out and seems to be wastewater as well. It is also very easy to put on and take off thanks to the nylon-lined inner sheath. But due to the weakness of some snaps and the extreme side positioning of the side pockets, I cannot give it more than four stars.
*Update*
I have been wearing this shirt jacket for about 18 months, mostly in autumn and winter, and it held up very well. It took a lot of abuse during this time and still looks great - no rips, no dents, and no sagging at the seams. corn. . As I mentioned earlier, these snaps can definitely be a lot more powerful. Several times as I was doing something strenuous like cutting a brush or shoveling a lot of snow, I looked down and saw the bottom half of my jacket come loose. I don't know if I had the wrong button set, or if the rest of my shirt jackets were like this. It's a minor complaint, but it gets a little boring to work hard and constantly have to refute.
